Soul Train Awards 2018 In Review

The Soul Train Awards 2018 was an amazing event this year. It had a great number of talented acts representing R&B in a way that it is rarely represented these days. The show was hosted by lifelong friends and Martin co-stars, Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell, and they were an absolute riot throughout. Other presenters included SZA, Justine Skye, and Normani.

The show was also packed with impressive performances by R&B artist from a variety of generations. Bell Biv Devoe opened with an entertaining performance, Jon B and Donnell Jones gave us 90’s R&B flashbacks with their renditions of their hits, rising R&B star Jacquees showcased his talent in a performance of his two leading singles, and a soul singing ‘cypher’ consisting of Kelly Price, Luke James, Queen Naija, and BJ The Chicago Kid. Kelly Price took no prisoners and showed why she is hands down one of the greatest R&B vocalists.

Honorees of the show were Erykah Badu and Faith Evans who received the ‘Lady of Soul’ and ‘Legend’ awards respectively. Both ladies performed a medley of their greatest hits and both of them did a phenomenal job. Faith Evans showed out and just like Kelly Price, reminded us all of her place in history as one of the great vocalists of our time.

Overall the show was a blast to watch, and a real treat for R&B fans everywhere. It was certainly the best award show that BET arranged this year, and we can only hope that the tradition continues on!
