Geoffrey Owens, an actor who played the role of Elvin on “The Cosby Show,” has been in the news sphere lately because of a discovery made by a Trader Joe’s shopper, that the actor now works as a cashier at the grocer. Fox News broke this story and it caused a bit of a firestorm on social media among fans and others who believed Fox’s article to be condescending and “job shaming.” Good Morning America recently had the actor on their morning show to hear his side of the story, and he unashamedly told them that “there is no job greater than another.”
Now, producer/actor/director Tyler Perry caught wind of Owens’ employment and reached out to him via Twitter, responding with the following tweet:
#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist.

As you can see, their look to be some good things coming the way of one Geoffrey Owens!
There is no shame in hard, honest work, no matter what form that work takes. It is great to see the amount of support Geoffrey received from fans and others on social media, and it is amazing to see the Tyler Perry stepping up to offer him an acting job. If there is one thing that can be said about Tyler Perry, it is that he works hard to provide jobs for black actors, actresses, and entertainers in the industry and he doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. 🙂
