Aretha Franklin’s homegoing service took place today in the sanctuary of Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan. The service was scheduled to last 5 hours, but fittingly for the ‘Queen of Soul’, and in true black church fashion, the service carried on for 8 hours. Suffice it to say that the service was eventful.
Ariana Grande seemed to work off a couple of nerves to deliver an overall satisfactory performance of Aretha’s “Natural Woman.” Jennifer Hudson sang “Amazing Grace,” and it sounded fantastic, and Fantasia absolutely took everyone to church when she performed “Precious Lord”.
Music legends such as Chaka Khan, the Clark Sisters, and Stevie Wonder, also graced the stage to sing Aretha home, and they all did a fantastic job.
The service was long, very long, but it was also very eventful. Performances were from a who’s who of legends and modern-day greats, and I’m sure Aretha was proud. Rest In Peace, ‘Queen of Soul’.
