‘Queen of Soul’, Aretha Franklin, Dies at 76. Celebs Commemorate Her

Today, the ‘Queen of Soul,’ Aretha Franklin passed away in her home city of Detroit after a battle with neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer. Aretha Franklin’s music has impacted the world in ways that very few artists’ has ever done. Through both song and practice, she became a voice for the rising consciousness of feminism and civil rights in the 60’s. Aretha Franklin became a life-long performer and had what she describes as her favorite performing moment, when sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” at the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama.
